  • EU amends FCM plastic regulation EU 10/2011
  •  On 29 April 2017, the EU Official Journal published a new Regulation (EU) 2017/752, amending and correcting regulation (EU) No 10/2011 on plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.

      The amendment added a new element Nickel to Annex II-Restriction on materials and articles, and the migration limit for Nickel is 0.02 mg/kg food simulant.

     The amendment also added six new substances to Table 1 of Annex I-Union list of authorised monomers, other starting substances, macromolecules obtained from microbial fermentation, additives and polymer production aids. Combinations of simulants representative for different food types that should be used for overall migration testing are also clarified by the amendment.

      This regulation shall enter into force on 19 May 2017. And the provisions on the specific migration limits for Nickel shall apply from 19 May 2019.
